Garbage day makes me sad. I loathe waste – wasted food, wasted packaging, wasted money, wasted time.
I love to minimize waste by meal planning, composting, reducing, reusing and re-inventing.
There are so many small ways to reduce household waste (and even save money) – making more food from scratch; re-using jars and containers; buying second-hand clothing, toys and furniture; reusable diapers and cloths, rather than disposable diapers and wipes. Every small choice adds up – and I try to make choices that feel good for me.

Hi There Jackie, i have been reading for articles on recycling and its all great, but what do you suggest i do with all the garbage that is being dumped on our street and properties . On Friday i went to check my crops all within three miles of Navan Village and i found 4 four different spots where house hold garbage has been dumped on roadsides. I have pictures to prove it. Saturday four more bags were dumped on wall road just east of Trim. My wife goes for a walk through Navan Village every morning and picks up Tims cups and rappers and Mcdonalds as well. This morning it was broken glass and garbage on the fair grounds. Perhaps you should focus on stopping these idiots from littering needlessly around Navan.. Have you ever gone into the Dump on Navan Road and seen all the cardboard, Plastic and other recyclables that are being dumped by large trucks every day. I have and then try to make sense of me taking my cereal box to the road so two men with a big truck can pick it up.

Hi Glen, thanks so much for reaching out. It must be extremely frustrating to find trash thrown on your property. That’s absolutely unacceptable. Sadly, I have heard a few stories like this recently where trash is tossed on farm land, plus I see discarded trash (and pick it up) daily on my walks through Navan. If it could help, please feel free to share a few of the photos and I can do a social media post through the NCA (and potentially a mention in the Nugget) about this ongoing problem. Again, it’s absolutely unacceptable and I am hopeful this behaviour can be stopped. My intention with my blog and social media is to give people ideas of how they can limit their production of waste by switching to reusables, borrowing, renting, making homemade, etc. I absolutely agree that recycling is not the answer. Please feel free to send me an email at naturallyjackielane@gmail.com if you’re interested in sharing the photos, plus I would be interested to hear more about the Dump on Navan Road as I would like to provide feedback to the City. Thanks again for reaching out and I hope to hear from you soon. Best, Jackie
